SEPTA and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 234 have reached a tentative agreement on a new one-year contract, averting a strike that would have shut down bus, trolley, and subway services in Philadelphia. The agreement includes across-the-board raises, a signing bonus, changes in work rules, and SEPTA committing to training union mechanics to repair new electric buses. The contract does not address security concerns, but both sides have agreed to continue working on that issue. The deal must be approved by TWU members and SEPTA's board.
