Washington University Ceases Gender-Affirming Care for Minors in Compliance with State Law
Washington University in St. Louis will no longer provide gender-affirming care, including puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, to minors seeking gender transition due to a "new legal claim" that poses liability concerns. The university will refer current minor patients to other providers. The decision comes after a Missouri law banned minors from starting gender-affirming treatments, with an exception for those who began treatment before August 28. The university will continue to offer education and mental health support for transgender patients, and medical care for patients 18 and older will not be affected.
