Federal Grants Awarded to Six D.C. Region Trail Projects
Six trail projects in the Washington D.C. region are set to receive a total of $25 million in federal funding under the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (Raise) program. The projects aim to improve pedestrian and bike connections in historically disadvantaged communities, filling gaps in the existing trail network and enhancing connectivity to public transit and commercial districts. The funding will be used to repair existing trails, build new paths, and improve safety at intersections and road crossings. The projects include the construction of a bridge over the Anacostia River, the extension of the Suitland Parkway Trail, and the rehabilitation of the popular Sligo Creek Trail. The grants highlight the importance of connected trails and transportation infrastructure in underserved communities and will contribute to the development of a 900-mile trail network in the region.
