European Chamber in China Slams Shanghai Trade Fair as Political Spectacle
The European Union Chamber of Commerce has criticized the upcoming China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, calling it more of a "political showcase" than a business event. The chamber urged for tangible measures to restore confidence among European companies, pointing out that China's trade surplus with Europe has grown significantly over the past five years. European businesses are becoming disillusioned as symbolic gestures replace concrete results. The chamber called for the CIIE to focus on the business impact and undertake concrete policy measures to open the market. A survey by the chamber revealed that participation rates have dropped, with diminishing value of investment and limited policy changes cited as reasons.
