Newsom's revised budget slashes funding for education and faces $31.5B deficit.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has revised funding for TK-12 and community colleges downward by $2 billion for the coming fiscal year due to a $31 billion shortfall in the general fund. The budget includes $106.8 billion for school districts and community colleges through Proposition 98, nearly $4 billion less than two years ago. However, the University of California and California State University will receive 5% bumps to their base funding. Newsom also committed to funding the full 8.2% cost of living adjustment. The budget includes proposals for dyslexia screening, an equity multiplier, and child care.
