Flu Complication Forces Teen Athlete's Amputations
Mathias Uribe, a healthy 14-year-old, developed flu-like symptoms and was diagnosed with pneumonia and hypoxia. He went into cardiac arrest for six minutes and was airlifted to a larger hospital. Mathias developed streptococcal toxic shock syndrome and septic shock, resulting in amputations of his hands and legs. Despite the challenges, Mathias has shown resilience and is determined to recover. His family and community have rallied around him, raising funds for his medical expenses and rehabilitation. Mathias is expected to be fitted with prosthetics and continue pursuing his dreams.
