The Second Life of Antique Tanks and New Fighting Vehicles in Ukraine's Warzone.
Russia is using old T-54/55 tanks as vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs) by packing them with explosives and sending them towards Ukrainian front lines. A recent video shows a T-54/55 tank being destroyed in a massive explosion, presumably by a mine and then an anti-tank missile or rocket-propelled grenade. The incident has been discussed by Russian military bloggers, and Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed that a remotely controlled tank filled with explosives had destroyed a Ukrainian battlefield position. The purpose of these old tanks on a modern battlefield appears to be going out with a bang as an improvised bomb.
