Coastal Towns Crack Down on Ocean Swimming Amidst Rip Current Warnings and Hurricane Threats
Toms River and Seaside Heights in New Jersey have warned beachgoers that they will be ticketed for swimming in the ocean this weekend due to red flag warnings and the high risk of rip currents caused by Hurricane Lee. Toms River police have issued an emergency declaration, while Seaside Heights Mayor Tony Vaz stated that people who enter the ocean when lifeguards are not on duty are also subject to being ticketed. Atlantic City and Cape May City have also banned swimming due to the surf conditions.
