Turkish Leagues Suspended Indefinitely as Club President Attacks Referee
The Turkish Football Federation has suspended all leagues indefinitely after Ankaragucu's president, Faruk Koca, punched referee Halil Umut Meler in the face at the end of their Super Lig home match against Rizespor. Koca's attack came after Rizespor scored a 97th-minute equalizer, and the incident was followed by Ankaragucu fans invading the pitch. The federation has vowed to punish those involved in the attack, and a detention order has been issued for Koca. Referees in Turkey are often criticized but rarely targeted with violence.
