Iran Secures Russian Fighter Jets in Landmark Deal
Iran has finalized arrangements to acquire Russian-made Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets, Mil Mi-28 attack helicopters, and Yak-130 jet trainers, according to Iran's deputy defense minister. The deal signifies closer military relations between Tehran and Moscow. Iran's air force currently has a limited number of strike aircraft, including Russian and aging U.S. models. The report did not include Russian confirmation of the deal. In 2018, Iran claimed to have started production of the locally-designed Kowsar fighter, believed to be a replica of the U.S.-made F-5.
