Somalian Sports Minister Apologizes for Controversial Slow 100-Meter Sprinter
Somalia's sports minister has apologized and ordered the suspension of the chairwoman of the national track and field federation after an untrained female sprinter took over 20 seconds to finish a 100-meter race at the World University Games in China. The minister expressed embarrassment over the performance and stated that the ministry was unaware of how the athlete was selected. Allegations have also been made that the athlete was a relative of the federation chairwoman, leading to calls for her suspension.
