"Challenges of Intercepting Missiles in Space for US and Israel"
Both the US and Israel used weapons capable of intercepting ballistic missiles in outer space to defend against Iran's recent attack. Intercepting a ballistic missile outside the Earth's atmosphere is a challenging task due to the high speed and target discrimination involved. Israel's Arrow system, consisting of Arrow 2 and Arrow 3, and the US Navy's SM-3 interceptor were involved in the engagement. The SM-3 is unique as it is designed to operate in the vacuum of space.
