The U.S. Department of Transportation has approved an additional $2.5 billion in private activity bonds for the Brightline West high-speed rail project, adding to the $3 billion federal grant awarded last month. This brings the total federal support to $6.5 billion for the rail line connecting Southern California and Las Vegas, which is estimated to cost $12 billion. The project, which will run mostly parallel to Interstate 15, aims to allow trains to travel at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour, with an end-to-end trip of approximately two hours and thirty minutes.
