The crew of the documentary "Bama Rush" hired security during production due to rumors that they were secretly recording conversations during sorority recruitment at the University of Alabama. Director Rachel Fleit denies using secret microphones, but anxiety still crept in after a New York Times article mentioned her by name. The crew feared for their physical safety and a security detail was sent to ensure their safety and that of the subjects. The documentary explores body image, race, class, social media pressures, and the desire to belong through the lens of the Greek system.
HBO Max will stream a documentary titled "Bama Rush: Acceptance Is Everything" about the University of Alabama's sorority recruitment week starting May 23. The film follows UA students as they rush the sorority system in 2022. The recruitment process, known as Rush Week, begins each year in August, with thousands of prospective pledges visiting UA's sorority houses. The week ends with Bid Day, where the girls meet inside Bryant-Denny Stadium and they are handed a manila envelope, which they are told to sit on. Last year, UA's sorority recruitment week wrapped up with 2,345 pledges receiving bids from 17 sororities during Bid Day.
