COVID-19 Forces Cancellation of Solar Car Challenge, but Greenville High School Emerges as Winners
The Solar Car Challenge, a cross-country race for high school engineering teams with solar-powered cars, was cut short due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The race, which started on July 16, was supposed to last a week but ended after three days when more than half of the racing staff and several students tested positive for the virus. Despite the disappointment, the students gained valuable skills and lessons from the experience. The Polytechnic High team from Pasadena finished second in their division, while Palmdale High finished fourth. The race's focus on sustainability and clean energy aims to inspire students to pursue science and engineering careers.
