Protests and Safety Concerns at University of Pittsburgh
Streets and campus buildings at the University of Pittsburgh have reopened after a planned demonstration outside the O'Hara Student Center, where Conservative commentator Michael Knowles was participating in a debate about the transgender community. Pitt police declared a public safety emergency after an incendiary device, later identified as a smoke bomb, was set off outside the center. Multiple buildings were closed or locked down during and following the demonstration, but no injuries were reported.
