Lake Placid vies for 2026 Olympic sliding events

Lake Placid, New York has submitted a proposal to host the sliding events (bobsled, skeleton, and luge) for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Italy. The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee fully supports the efforts of the New York Olympic Authority to bring a small slice of the Olympics back to the United States. The venue for the sliding sports has been uncertain due to construction delays and cost issues in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. While Lake Placid is willing to host, tracks in Switzerland and Austria are still considered likely options. Italian authorities are working to find a solution to keep the sliding events in-country.
