Israel faces protests and calls for judicial reform to prevent civil unrest.

Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef called for dialogue on the Israeli government's proposed judicial overhaul to prevent the possibility of a civil war. While not getting involved in the politics of the controversial overhaul, Yosef said that the High Court of Justice should not intervene in matters of religion, for which there is a Chief Rabbinate court. The overhaul has riven Israeli society, with critics saying it will destroy Israel's fragile system of checks and balances by concentrating power in the hands of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his parliamentary majority.
