Portugal picks center-left leader to block the far right
Center-left António José Seguro won Portugal’s presidential runoff with about 67% of the vote, defeating far-right André Ventura (33%) as storms and floods battered the country; turnout was around 50%. Seguro’s win followed conservative backing to deny Ventura the presidency, a setback for Chega even as Ventura remains a rising force in the Portuguese right.
