Global Solidarity for WGA Strike: Screenwriters Unite Against Automation Threat.

Writers and their allies from almost two dozen countries gathered for demonstrations in support of striking WGA writers. The Screenwriters Everywhere protests took place across the globe, including at Netflix’s office in Seoul, South Korea, Apple and Amazon in Canada, and the European Parliament in Brussels. Demonstrators included some of the UK’s biggest scribes, including Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies, Succession creator Jesse Armstrong, and Black Mirror writer Charlie Brooker. The writers are seeking pay increases and structural changes to the business model, and many are also concerned about the effects of AI across the industry.

Global Screenwriters Unite for WGA Solidarity Day

The Writers Guild of America's strike against Hollywood's largest producers has gained global support, with events taking place in over 20 countries as part of an International Day of Solidarity. The strike began on May 2 and demands higher wages for TV and film writers, protections around the use of AI in content production, and guaranteed levels of staffing and weeks of employment on TV series. The WGA has enlisted members from the International Affiliation of Writers Guilds, Federation of Screenwriters in Europe, and UNI Global Union to demonstrate global support for the union's strike against Hollywood's largest producers.
