Drew Barrymore's Talk Show Returns Amid Strikes: A Controversial Choice

Drew Barrymore announced that her talk show, "The Drew Barrymore Show," will return for its fourth season amid the ongoing SAG/WGA strikes. Despite walking away from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards in support of the strikes, Barrymore stated that her show will comply with not discussing or promoting struck film and television. The strikes, led by screenwriters and actors, are in protest of unfair pay in the streaming era. Negotiations between the guild and the entertainment industry's top studios have broken down, with performers seeking a new contract that addresses the economic realities of streaming and emerging digital technologies.

Navigating the Perils of Hollywood Strikes: Actors, Writers, and Health Insurance at Risk

As the strike by 11,000 film and television writers and 65,000 actors in the US continues, the greatest danger they face is the isolation of their strike. The conglomerates, including Warner Bros Discovery, Apple, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, and Paramount, have no intention of negotiating with the striking writers and actors and are determined to "break the WGA." The companies' proposal fails to protect writers from the existential threats that caused the strike in the first place. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA leaderships are looking for a deal that they can "sell" to their members, but the current course of the strike can only lead to disaster. Breaking the isolation of the strike and building rank-and-file committees independent of the union bureaucracy is crucial for the success of the writers and actors in their fight against corporate power.

'Parks and Recreation' Cast Reunites in Support of SAG-AFTRA Strike

The cast of "Parks and Recreation" reunited on the picket line in Culver City to protest as part of the ongoing strikes involving the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The protest took place on the same week that the WGA strike reached 100 days and the SAG-AFTRA strike approached three weeks. The cast members, including show co-creator Mike Schur and main cast members Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman, Adam Scott, Retta, and Jim O’Heir, carried signs and wore Pawnee-inspired gear. Notably absent were Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones, who had their own mini-reunion earlier in the week.
