The St. Louis Blues defeated the Washington Capitals 5-2 in an "important" game, according to Caps head coach Peter Laviolette. Sammy Blais scored two goals for the Blues, while Jordan Kyrou, Kasperi Kapenen, and Brayden Schenn also found the back of the net. Martin Fehervary and Nicklas Backstrom scored for the Caps, but it wasn't enough to overcome their defensive meltdowns and lazy passes. The Caps have now given up a goal on the first shot they have faced in three straight games.
