The Cleveland Guardians have optioned right-hander Zach Plesac to Class AAA Columbus and rookie Peyton Battenfield will start in his place Friday night against the Twins at Progressive Field. The team is expected to activate left-hander Sam Hentges from the injured list to fill Plesac’s spot on the roster before Friday’s game. Plesac has struggled since 2022, posting a 7.59 ERA in five starts this year. Battenfield will be one of three rookies in the rotation, joining Logan Allen and Tanner Bibee.
