Amazon Fires Union Organizer Jennifer Bates for Speaking Out
Jennifer Bates, a prominent union organizer at the Bessemer Amazon fulfillment center, has been terminated from her job while on worker's compensation medical leave. Bates was one of the most outspoken union organizers at the warehouse, testifying before Congress and giving interviews to national media outlets during the two union elections in Bessemer. The Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union (RWDSU) has announced that Bates has appealed her termination, and RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum has called for the National Labor Relations Board to review her case and ensure that workers' rights are protected under the law.
