"Russian Skater Kamila Valieva's Doping Defense: The Strawberry Dessert Controversy"
The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva's four-year ban for testing positive for trimetazidine, rejecting her defense that the prohibited substance entered her body through a strawberry dessert made by her grandfather. Trimetazidine is banned for use by athletes as it is considered a metabolic modulator that can aid endurance in physical activity. As a result of the ban, the US Figure Skating team will receive a gold medal for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, with Russia's Olympic results being disqualified and re-ranked.
