"Conservative Operatives Fined $1.25 Million for Voter Suppression Robocall Scheme"
Right-wing operatives Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman have been ordered to pay up to $1.25 million in fines for orchestrating a robocall campaign aimed at suppressing Black votes in the 2020 election. The campaign involved sending false warnings about mail-in voting to predominantly Black New Yorkers, causing anxiety and distress to some recipients. Under a settlement agreement, the operatives must pay a $1 million judgment to the New York attorney general’s office, the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, and individual plaintiffs. They have also faced legal action in other states for similar voter suppression tactics.
