Lecce Fires Manager for Headbutting Opponent
Serie A side Lecce has sacked head coach Roberto D’Aversa after he was seen headbutting Hellas Verona’s Thomas Henry following their match, resulting in both receiving red cards. Lecce condemned D’Aversa’s actions as contrary to the principles of sport and relieved him of his duties. The 1-0 loss to Verona leaves Lecce 15th in Serie A, just one point above the relegation zone. D’Aversa had been appointed at the start of the season and had a one-year deal with a further 12-month option if they avoided relegation.
