Uvalde Police Chief Resigns Amid Robb Elementary School Shooting Investigation

Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodriguez resigned just before a city council meeting to discuss a report clearing local officers of wrongdoing in the Robb Elementary School shooting, which occurred while he was on vacation. The report found that police acted in good faith but did not follow active shooter protocol, taking 77 minutes to kill the gunman. Rodriguez did not give a reason for his resignation, and the council will need more time to assess the report. Assistant Chief of Police Homer Delgado will serve as Interim Chief of Police while a replacement is sought.

Texas DPS under scrutiny for trooper's altercation with Uvalde victim's mother

The Texas Department of Public Safety released videos of an altercation between a trooper and Ana Rodriguez, the mother of a student killed in the Robb Elementary School shooting, during a student-led walkout. The trooper physically forced Rodriguez out of the school, leading to outrage on social media. The released videos show Rodriguez shouting at the trooper and attempting to enter the auditorium before being led outside. The trooper then allowed Rodriguez into an office to retrieve her son, but she refused to speak with him. Officials hope the transparency will help mend divisions between law enforcement and the community.
