Bangladesh journalist imprisoned for reporting on food prices under disputed digital law.
Bangladeshi journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams was arrested under the Digital Security Act after publishing a story criticizing rising food prices in the country. The controversial law allows for jail sentences of up to 14 years and has been criticized by human rights groups. The case against Shams was filed by a local leader of the governing Awami League in connection to the report. Prothom Alo, the newspaper Shams worked for, denied the allegations and said they would provide legal support to fight his case.
