Food Poisoning Outbreak at Suffolk County Sushi Restaurant Sickens Dozens
More than two dozen people, including eleven 13-year-olds, fell ill with food poisoning symptoms after dining at Kumo Sushi and Steakhouse in Long Island. The cause of the illness is suspected to be rice contaminated with bacillus cereus, a bacteria that releases toxins when cooked rice is left out at room temperature. The victims experienced rapid onset of symptoms, pointing towards this particular bacteria. The restaurant has been cited for alleged violations, and an investigation is ongoing. The affected individuals, including the birthday girl and her friends, are suffering from anxiety and lingering stomach pain.
