Rev. Steve Pieters, Longest HIV/AIDS Survivor in US, Succumbs to Cancer
Rev. Steve Pieters, a prominent advocate and one of the longest survivors of HIV/AIDS in the U.S., has passed away after battling cancer. Pieters gained recognition in 1985 for being one of the first HIV-positive gay men to appear on a national, longform interview with Tammy Faye Bakker. Actress Jessica Chastain, who portrayed Bakker in a film, announced Pieters' death on Twitter, praising his impact on the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS.
