Derailment Triggers Deadly Collision on Spain’s Rail Lines
Two trains collided on parallel tracks in southern Spain after a northbound Iryo train derailed in Adamuz and struck a southbound Renfe train, killing at least 40 people and injuring dozens; about 300 passengers were aboard the Iryo train. Investigators are examining whether a track defect contributed, with officials suspending much of the Madrid–south rail network. Officials described the aftermath as chaotic, and the crash marks Spain’s deadliest rail disaster since 2013.
