Authorities uncover alleged human smuggling scheme, arrest 17 immigrants in Lisbon Falls.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are investigating a human smuggling scheme in Maine after 17 undocumented immigrants from Nicaragua and Guatemala were removed from a home in Lisbon Falls. The immigrants were working for a Massachusetts-based company, and their employer rented the home they were staying in. Two of the immigrants were found to have re-entered the U.S. after being forcibly removed, which is a felony. Four others were found to have entered the U.S. illegally and were already in removal proceedings, while the remaining immigrants will now undergo removal proceedings.
