27 Charged in German Far-Right Coup Plot with Russian Links
German prosecutors have charged 27 individuals, including a self-styled prince and a former far-right lawmaker, with terrorism offenses in connection with an alleged plot to overthrow the government. The suspects, who believed in conspiracy theories such as Reich Citizens and QAnon ideology, are accused of planning to storm the parliament building in Berlin, arrest lawmakers, and negotiate a post-coup order primarily with Russia. Far-right extremism has been identified as the biggest threat to Germany's domestic security, with previous incidents including the killing of a regional politician and an attempted attack on a synagogue.
