Redlands Unified School District in Southern California has agreed to pay $2.25 million to settle a lawsuit involving a teacher, Laura Whitehurst, who became pregnant by one of the students she was accused of sexually abusing. This settlement brings the total amount paid by the district to Whitehurst's victims to $8.25 million. The latest lawsuit was filed by a former student who alleged he was preyed upon and sexually abused by Whitehurst in 2007 and 2008 when he was 14. Whitehurst admitted to having sex with the student multiple times. In a previous lawsuit, the district paid $6 million to a former student who fathered Whitehurst's child.
