Former Fairfax Co. officer indicted for fatal shooting at Tysons Corner Center
A former Fairfax County police officer, Sgt. Wesley Shifflett, has been indicted by a special grand jury on charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm for fatally shooting an unarmed man suspected of shoplifting outside the Tysons Corner Center mall in Virginia. This comes after an initial grand jury declined to indict Shifflett earlier this year. The special grand jury was requested by Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano, who believes there is probable cause that Shifflett committed a crime. Shifflett was fired by the department after the shooting. An arraignment has been set for October 20.
