Jan. 6 Capitol Rioters Sentenced: From Signed Trump Hat to Shocked Mistakes
Rachel Powell, a Jan. 6 defendant who smashed a Capitol window and received a signed hat from former President Donald Trump, has been sentenced to over four years in prison. Powell, a mother of eight and grandmother of six, expressed deep remorse for her actions during her sentencing. Federal prosecutors sought eight years in prison, citing Powell's obsession with keeping Trump in power and her involvement in the Capitol attack. Powell has been on home detention since violating her pre-trial conditions of release. The judge allowed her to surrender after the holidays, just before the three-year anniversary of her crimes.
