Security Concerns Prompt Closure of Sen. Feinstein's Memorial to Public
Senator Dianne Feinstein's memorial service, originally planned as a public event, will now be closed to the public due to increased security concerns. Only invited guests will be allowed to attend the service, while others can stream it online. The public was invited to pay their respects and sign a condolence book while the late senator's body lay in state at City Hall. Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed Laphonza Butler, the first openly LGBTQ+ person to represent California in the Senate, to fill Feinstein's seat.
