Psychedelic Research Pioneer Roland Griffiths Dies at 77

Roland Griffiths, a professor of behavioral science and psychiatry at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, has passed away at the age of 77. Griffiths was a pioneer in the study of psychedelics and played a crucial role in reintroducing them into scientific discourse. His groundbreaking research on psilocybin, the psychoactive component found in certain mushrooms, demonstrated its potential to induce mystical experiences with substantial and sustained personal meaning and spiritual significance. Griffiths' work paved the way for a renaissance in psychedelic research and opened up new possibilities for treating anxiety, depression, addiction, and end-of-life distress. His contributions have had a profound impact on the field and will continue to shape the future of psychedelic science.
