Arizona Governor to Decide Fate of Proposition 400 Transportation Funding
Governor Katie Hobbs has signed Proposition 400 into law, which will provide 20 years of funding for road and transportation improvements in Maricopa County. The proposition will continue a half-cent sales tax for another 20 years, securing the county's economic future. However, there are conditions attached to the funding, including limitations on light rail expansion and bus lines that do not meet efficiency standards. The passage of the bill has received support from Valley Metro, lawmakers, and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, although she expressed disapproval of certain contingencies that would cut revenue to cities. Voters in Maricopa County will have the opportunity to vote on Proposition 400 in the November election.
