Brandon Johnson Wins Chicago Mayoral Election, Defeating Paul Vallas.
Brandon Johnson, a progressive Democrat and Cook County commissioner, has won the Chicago mayoral election with 51% of the vote, defeating former CPS CEO and city budget director Paul Vallas. Johnson, who was largely unknown six months ago, faces the challenge of bringing together a city divided on how to deal with crime and other big issues. He was endorsed by the Chicago Teachers Union and will be sworn in on May 15.
