Starbucks Workers Across the US Take a Stand: Strikes, Threats, and Unionization

Starbucks in Cedar Park, Texas, canceled a coffee with drag queens event at one of its stores due to threats received. The event, originally scheduled for June 24, will be reimagined and held in August during Austin's Pride celebration. The decision to cancel was made after the fatal shooting of Akira Ross, a transgender woman, in Cedar Park. Starbucks officials stated that the safety of their partners, customers, and performers was their primary concern. Some members of the LGBTQ+ community expressed disappointment with the cancellation, while other businesses in Cedar Park have successfully held Pride events without facing threats. Starbucks reaffirmed its support for the LGBTQ+ community and highlighted its history of inclusivity and support for LGBTQ+ rights.
