Twitter has restored free access to its API for verified government and publicly owned services to tweet weather, transit, and other alerts after the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) said it would no longer use the platform for its service advisories due to estimated charges of up to $50,000 a month. Twitter had announced a new pricing system last month that would charge for access to its API, which is used by accounts that post frequent alerts, such as transit and weather agencies.
