Ohio State athletes Jeremiah Smith, Caleb Downs, and Sonny Styles received top honors in the Big Ten preseason awards, with Smith being the only unanimous selection. The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team has been chosen as the top pick in the 2023 Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll, with three players from the team also earning spots on the Preseason All-Big West Team. Penn State has four players on Phil Steele's All-American teams and 11 players on the All-Big Ten preseason teams. Junior Olu Fashanu and Kalen King were both named first-team All-Americans, while Abdul Carter and Nicholas Singleton were named third and fourth-team All-Americans, respectively. Fashanu, Carter, King, and Singleton were also named to the All-Big Ten teams, along with seven other Penn State players.
