Federal investigators found that inadequate safety standards at a Mississippi poultry processing plant directly led to the death of a 16-year-old sanitation worker, who was pulled into a machine and sustained fatal injuries. The facility failed to follow proper safety procedures, resulting in 14 "serious" and three "other-than-serious" violations, with a proposed fine of $212,646. The Department of Labor is also investigating potential child labor law violations at the facility, which had previously been cited by OSHA for another fatal incident in 2021.
