USS Howard's Commanding Officer Removed After Soft Grounding Incident
The USS Howard (DDG-83), a Japan-based guided-missile destroyer, experienced a "soft grounding" near Bali while en route to a port visit. The ship was able to return to normal operations without assistance or significant damage. The commander of the Howard, Cmdr. Kenji Igawa, was subsequently removed from command due to a loss of confidence in his ability to lead. The incident is currently under investigation.
