Viktor Tkachenko, a journalist in central Ukraine, maintains a spreadsheet of Ukrainian soldiers from Poltava region killed since Russia's full-scale invasion began, which is used in regular round-ups that typically contain between 10 and 40 names. Tkachenko and his colleagues trawl open sources such as Facebook, where relatives and local officials often post individual death announcements. The spreadsheet offers a glimpse into the human cost of the war in one of Ukraine's 27 regions. As the war drags on, the psychological toll on Ukrainians is increasing.
