Rays narrowly defeat Cubs in PitchCom plagued game.

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Zach Eflin faced issues with his PitchCom receiver inside his cap during Wednesday's game against the Chicago Cubs, causing frustration and forcing him to resort to old-school signs and winging it at times. Despite the technical difficulties, Eflin delivered a solid start, allowing just two runs and striking out five. The Rays' bullpen could soon see the return of right-handed reliever Shawn Armstrong, who worked two 1-2-3 innings in his latest rehab appearance, while Zack Littell could start a rehab assignment by the end of the weekend. The Rays are also looking to secure support for several players in the upcoming All-Star Game.

Shohei Ohtani dominates with PitchCom in Angels' season opener loss.

Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels' pitcher, designated hitter, and outfielder, used a PitchCom device to call his own pitches during the season opener against the Oakland Athletics. The device was placed underneath Ohtani's jersey near his shoulder, and Angels manager Phil Nevin believes it can help Ohtani get through his pitching repertoire quicker. Ohtani did run into a few issues with the device early on in Thursday's game and walked the first batter he faced on just four pitches. However, he did not seem to have any more problems with it for the rest of the game.

Shohei Ohtani's Pitching Brilliance Overshadowed in Angels' Opening Day Loss.

Shohei Ohtani used a PitchCom device hidden under his jersey to call his own pitches in his first start of the 2023 season for the Los Angeles Angels against the Oakland Athletics. He struck out 10 and allowed just two hits in six shutout innings, but the Angels lost 2-1. Ohtani's use of PitchCom is different from other pitchers as he had to memorize the keypad to use it without seeing the numbers. The device was approved by MLB last Friday and allows pitchers to call their own pitches instead of the catcher.
