Suspected Spy Pigeon Released After 8 Months in Indian Detention
A pigeon with Chinese writing on its wings was detained at an Indian port for eight months due to suspicion of espionage, despite being cleared of any wrongdoing. The bird was finally released after a newspaper report, letters to the police, and intervention from PETA India. The veterinary hospital that held the pigeon faced a dilemma, as they couldn't set it free due to the seriousness of the charge, but also didn't want to expose a healthy bird to sick and injured animals.
