Ostium, a decentralized exchange founded by Harvard graduates, has raised $20 million in Series A funding to develop a platform for trading derivatives on real-world assets and cryptocurrencies, aiming to compete with traditional brokerages and target non-U.S. investors outside the crypto-native community.
Bitcoin's 4% drop to $42,000 has cooled the overheated crypto perpetual futures market, as funding rates for major cryptocurrencies have receded to a healthy territory below 0.1%. The decline in futures open interest suggests that overleveraged traders have been shaken out of the market, causing a minor bullish/bearish hiccup.
Coinbase has launched its International Exchange, offering Bitcoin and Ethereum perpetual futures to institutional clients. The exchange will settle trades in USD Coin and have several security features, including real-time 24/7 risk management, dynamic margin requirements, and rigorous compliance standards. The exchange will focus on high-bar regulatory jurisdictions and will be accessible to institutional clients in eligible non-US jurisdictions through an API. Retail customers will not initially have access. Coinbase is committed to the US but believes that countries worldwide are increasingly moving forward with responsible, crypto-forward regulatory frameworks.
